A Fact We Were Surprised (Albeit Delighted) To Learn About Twitter.........

A fact we were slightly surprised to learn the other day, was that the fastest growing demographic on Twitter is tweeps aged 55-64. This demographic has shot up by almost 80% since 2012, I think you’ll agree this is a strong fact to argue back to those who say Twitter is just for teenagers.

And what a great demographic to have growing on Social Media.

This is a great fact to bear in mind if you are targeting the ‘grey pound’. This age group are the lucky ones who are retiring and have time, and hopefully large pensions, on their hands. Handy if you are a business who specialise in pensions and investments, savings, writing wills or offer courses, hobbies or get-a-ways. 

Actually it is also good news if you are a shop, bar, restaurant or any kind of venue which welcomes footfall. And for businesses who sell products for the young, think babies (impending Grandchildren or Grandchildren who are growing). Hang on a minute we’re finding it really hard to find a business who would not benefit targeting this great age group.

 

A new report by Capital Economies estimates that the spending power of this age group will jump to an unbelievable £40 billion (yes you’ve read right, billion) in under two decades.

So please let this be something to think about when writing your Tweets. Keep the older generation in mind, I think we will all agree that Social Media is, by now, a habit and maybe one which some people don’t realise they are doing. It is no longer a platform for just the young but for all age groups.

The older generation are not to be found without the latest smartphone these days and we feel the growth for this demographic is not going to peak any time soon.
