Going For Gold

Today is being called Gold Wednesday as our fantastic #TeamGB have started us off with our gold medals.
The Olympic games have, so far, been absolutely spectacular. And of course social media has been playing it's part.
In fact the IOC recognised the need to deliver information to people all over the world in new and different ways. New specific Olympic websites have been set up and of course FaceBook and Twitter accounts.
Every event and team have their own twitter account, here at One Media Solutions we have been avidly following and Re-Tweeting @TeamGB who keep us perfectly up to date with all events throughout each day.
Hats off to their social media team as they are doing a sterling job and would so far recieve a Gold Medal from us for their work.
Olympic hashtags and topics have been trending all week all around the world and we doubt this is going to drop as the games continue. It has been obvious to us that Twitter has been the most popular social media site to pass on and share the Olympic news however everyone's news feeds on FaceBook will have grouped posts on Olympic comments.
We're very excited to see how Team GB are going to continue in the London 2012 games and we will of course be tweeting and blogging our proud thoughts along the way.
Don't forget to check out our new website which is getting updated daily: www.onemediasolutions.com

Bye Bye Google Maps

Google Maps; everyone knows it and everyone loves it! Well actually no it would seem not everyone, certainly not Apple.
Apple have announced that they will no longer be running Google Maps on their devices as a rift between the two companies, which developed some time ago, has ended with Apple taking the decision to create their own Maps. Which let's face it will come as no surprise as they have more than likely been developing their own Maps for some time.
Apple were apparently getting more frustated at Google rolling out better versions and updates for their own operating system Android and with this only ever set to continue the IOS6 operating system will no longer update the Google Maps software.
Both Apple and Google have showcased their new 3D Maps software with both companies using fleets of planes to capture the images.
We are loving this competition at One Media Solutions as the two rivals are only wanting to do better than each other which is good news for us as consumers.
However, we must admit that when the news was first announced we were saddened that our so much beloved iPhone will lose our so much beloved Google Maps. We know Google Maps, we love Google Maps and changes like this are not always welcome. However we feel Google is coming off a lot worse after this defeat. Google are going to lose millions in advertising revenue, which is naturally in turn going to go to Apple.
Apple will now be able to learn what their users are doing, be able to keep that information and use it wisely in the future, making sure that the final result for the end user is as relevant as it can possibly be.
We feel Apple is going to continue to grow and grow but how Google fights back with Android is going to be very interesting indeed.
Don't forget to get in touch and let us know your thoughts on the above and while you're at it check out our new website: www.onemediasolutions.com

Murray....... He Came So Close

All here at One Media Solutions have had Wimbledon fever.
Even though most of the country has been under a constant down pour of rain, the weather (surprsingly) has held up for most of the Wimbledon tournament.
There is a lot to make us Brits proud this year, our Queens jubilee, the London Olympics (more on that to come later) and of course Murray.
It has been no mean feat for him to get to the final, the first Brit to do so, in more decades that we care to mention and we salute him.
He played well to begin with, having much of the upper hand in the first games however our pesky wet weather came and a break was called.
The roof on centre court was closed making it the first final to be played with the roof closed, however with the closed roof came a different atmosphere and a different game.
Federer came back with a stronger game and Murray looked like he ws flagging way before he lost the match.
Murray played well and he came so close, however he lost and his emotions at the end showed us just how much it meant to him. He wasn't quite sure he would make it through his runners up interview but he thanked us all for his support.
Of course throughout the day Twitter and Facebook have been alive with who was their favourite and as far as we could see here at OMS opinions have been divided across he two popular mediums. Both names have been trending on twitter and statuses across the land have been celebrating and commiserating.
Congratulations to Federer and also to our Murray, we always believe in next year.

Rain Rain Go Away

Here we are nearing the middle July and in typical British fashion we've had rain. This summer has been a little wetter than previous ones as we've had the most rainful since records began.
To help us cope with the terrential down-pour a company, based in Shrewsbury, has developed a real time flood map.
A live flood warning system went live this week, enabling people to track areas in danger of flooding. The real time updates flag areas on maps in England and Wales where users can zoom into their location to see if there is a flood alert. The data for the map warnings is gathered from the Enviroment Agency's nationwide network of montioring stations.
Timing is crucial when it comes to weather warnings and real time map warnings enables the likes of schools and businesses the chance to prepare.
The system was originally launched on Facebook in April and has reached 2,000 likes and up to 40% of those likes have gone onto register the map.
We are loving this kind of work here at One Media Solutions, it shows how social media and interactive sites can be a life line to those who are fretting.
We're guessing this can also mean when it comes to winter and we are in danger of snow the same technology can be applied so communites have a real time update of what to expect.

Pinterest…….

I first heard about Pinteret about 9 months ago. A friend recommended it to me as she knows not only of my love for all things media, social and web based but also that I love to collect ideas for fashion and the home.
After being dubious and initially not liking the sound of it I am now hooked. It is a mind and memory board all in one. After browsing the web you can simply pin your favourite items and images to your different mood boards.
You can let your followers see your style or better yet your imagination.
You pick your different pin boards and give them a title each. Let’s say you have 5 boards with the titles: ‘Favourite Places & Space’, ‘For The Home’, ‘Products I Love’, ‘Books Worth Reading’ and ‘My Style’. Once you have browsed the web you can then pin your favourite or most wanted things under each category.
It’s great to follow others to see what products or places they desire, it becomes a never ending “look through the keyhole” into peoples creations and imaginations. You get an opportunity to see what makes people tick and their creative thinking of that moment.
It has certainly got the industry talking as it is currently the fastest growing social media site. Facebook has proven we love images, and with it recently buying instagram for $1 billion is this a tempt to keep our images and creative mind with the social giant or will we in our millions turn to pinterest to outlet of channels.
Like anything new it can seem daunting and hard to navigate around, but after looking at some pinterest veterans and their boards, I’m sure like me, you will get hooked.
One Media Solutions can set up all your social media and we marketing needs, don’t forget to get in touch with us if you want to chat about your online presence.
