When & What Really is The Best Time to Post on Facebook?

Happy Monday Lovers. Our first blog this week is all about everyone’s favourite big Social Media player………Facebook.

It used to be that business owners would set up a "personal profile page" under their business name to promote their services and products. The all seeing Facebook could see tell this was going on so made Business Pages mandatory. And even though, it seems to us, that Facebook has been around forever (can you remember what your life was like before it? No, us neither) Business Pages have only been around for a mere 3 years.

So when and what is best to post on your Facebook Business Page?

We are still meeting a lot of clients who do not have Facebook profiles but know they need a Facebook page for their business. However, whether you have been on Facebook since your uni days, or new to Facebook this week, research has found best tactics when it comes to posting.

We've found out some very interesting research results below:

Of course, when reading the below please bear in mind who your target market is. Not all findings will be applicable to your industry.

The Best Time for Retailers to Post:

Research has found that the best time for retailers to post, is outside of office hours. In particular after 8.00pm at weeknights. Posts at this time tend to get 20% more engagement.
We have also noticed, during weekdays, that ASOS tend to post between 12.00-2.00pm why? Because this is when most people go on their lunch break and so will check Facebook.

Best Days to Post:

Research has shown that the best days for engagement with your posts are Wednesdays and Sundays. However, most brands which were investigated made sure they posted regularly.

Always remember quality over quantity though.

How Many Times a Day Should You Post:

As Facebook’s News Feed is slower moving, the last you want to do is clog up peoples feed with your sales messages.  We advise most of clients to post no more than 2 times a day. (Again just bear in mind your target market, this is simply a rule of thumb).

Research has found that posting one to two times a day produces 40% higher user engagement.
Having said that brands that post between two to six times per week produced 70% user engagement.
We’ll say it again quality over quantity.

Length of Your Posts:

A long looking post consisting purely of text will put people off straight away.
Try and use images (great way to showcase products) and keep sentences short and to the point.

Posts around 80 characters long receive around 65% higher engagement.

Research has found posts which are short and to the point, under 40 characters, generate the highest engagement. However, only 5% of Business Pages post using under 40 characters.

Our next blog will be all about the best ways you can increase engagement on your page, so keep your beautiful eyes peeled for it.
