Rain Rain Go Away

Here we are nearing the middle July and in typical British fashion we've had rain. This summer has been a little wetter than previous ones as we've had the most rainful since records began.
To help us cope with the terrential down-pour a company, based in Shrewsbury, has developed a real time flood map.
A live flood warning system went live this week, enabling people to track areas in danger of flooding. The real time updates flag areas on maps in England and Wales where users can zoom into their location to see if there is a flood alert. The data for the map warnings is gathered from the Enviroment Agency's nationwide network of montioring stations.
Timing is crucial when it comes to weather warnings and real time map warnings enables the likes of schools and businesses the chance to prepare.
The system was originally launched on Facebook in April and has reached 2,000 likes and up to 40% of those likes have gone onto register the map.
We are loving this kind of work here at One Media Solutions, it shows how social media and interactive sites can be a life line to those who are fretting.
We're guessing this can also mean when it comes to winter and we are in danger of snow the same technology can be applied so communites have a real time update of what to expect.
